Mount Stirling Meadery Wins Six Medals at 2025 Australian National Mead Competition
Mount Stirling Meadery has once again proven that modern mead belongs in the
Granite Belt, securing six medals across major categories at the
2025 Australian National Mead Competition.
The results drawn from a strong field dominated by Queensland and Northern NSW producers,
celebrate both our beekeeping heritage and our commitment to contemporary fermentation.

Were off to a great start!
2024 was our first year of making mead on a commercial level and also our first year of entering any competition. We entered 5 meads and walked away with 5 results!
That was a fabulous confidence boost that our modern style of meads could hold their own against the traditional mead makers.
Mount Stirling Meadery focuses on single fermented meads, meaning there's no back sweetening.
We like to call it Modern Mead, a timeless alternative to traditional wines...
Bloody Kate Mead
Silver Medal for the “Bloody Kate”
At the 7th Red Hill Mead Show (March 8, 2025), hosted by the Red Hill Agricultural & Horticultural Society on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, our mead “Bloody Kate” was awarded a Silver Medal in the Other Meads class.
This national competition celebrates excellence in mead craftsmanship, and “Bloody Kate” impressed judges with its distinct flavour, balance, and originality. We’re proud that Antony Lievesley’s creation stood out amongst entries from across Australia, affirming Mount Stirling Meadery’s place at the forefront of modern Australian mead.
Garlic & Pepper Mead
Silver Medal for the infamous “Garlic & Pepper” Spiced Mead
At the 7th Red Hill Mead Show (March 2025), Antony Lievesley was also honoured with a Silver Medal in the Spice Mead & Mead with Herbs category for his bold creation, “Garlic & Pepper”.
This prestigious competition recognises innovation in mead-making, and “Garlic & Pepper” turned heads with its unique fusion of savoury garlic and spicy pepper, delivering a flavour profile unlike anything else on the judging table. Among a strong field of entries, it stood out as a daring example of modern Australian mead craftsmanship.
Chilli Spiced Mead
Bronze Medal for our “Chilli Mead”
At the 7th Red Hill Mead Show (March 8, 2025, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria), Antony Lievesley received a Bronze Medal in the Spice Mead & Mead with Herbs class for his handcrafted Chilli Mead.
Presented by the Red Hill Agricultural & Horticultural Society, this award celebrates meads that push flavour boundaries. Antony’s Chilli Mead impressed the judges with its vibrant heat, balance, and creative use of spice—a bold example of how Mount Stirling Meadery is reimagining modern Australian mead with flair and originality.
